They say if you want something done then ask a busy person. Alison Botsford is that busy person. Alison holds rank in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, flies all over the world as a corporate flight attendant, and runs a charity promoting young pilots. With an outgoing personality, although shy of public speaking, Alison shows a determination to face that fear and deliver speeches yearly before large groups of people. It requires initiative to lead a life as Alison’s and she stands out as that individual.
Alison began volunteering with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 2012. Her first accomplishment was to revise the Orientation Guide. She has worked her way up the ranks and is now Vice Commander of Aviation, Flotilla 014-10-20. Most recently, she displayed her coolness under intense pressure and knowledge of aircraft and safety procedures while navigating a U.S.C.G.A mission on the Hudson River when her pilot became unconscious and unresponsive. The copilot in training took the stick and Alison notified multiple Air Traffic Control stations in the New York City area. Throughout the distress Alison relayed vital information to the ground and copilot that lead to a safe and successful touchdown and landing of the aircraft thereby averting a possible disaster.
Alison has a wondrous career as a corporate flight attendant. Most passengers are company executives but there have been famous celebrities. When the destination and layover time are convenient she is able to meet up with family and friends at their locale. Alison maintains another job which helps afford her the means to orchestrate awards dinners, family reunions, and fund raising events. She produced, edited and distributed an hour long tribute to her father, “The Celebration of Hal Botsford’s Life”, so people may watch and remember him for his extraordinary achievements who’s legacy has spirited Alison’s passion for life rarely lived.
Alison’s admiration for her father has lead to the foundation of the “Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund”, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization. She is creator and President who wrote the by-laws, obtained a set of officers, and runs events. At the annual awards ceremony, Alison addresses aspiring pilots and other guests with entertaining stories of Hal and information about the fund, its status, and announces the year’s winners. The H.B.G.o.W.F. offers local and national contestants the opportunity to win a $1,000 grant to the flight school of their choice with their winning essay.
Alison has made a world of people who appreciate her hospitable efforts to make things more wonderful. She has nursed an injured swan back from near death to be able to protect his mate and their cygnets for that season and many years to come. She rides motorcycle, goes camping, skiing, diving and experiences the fullness of life being herself and helping others to experience a richer life. It completely honors me to nominate her as the most devoted, energetic, and proactive person I know and love. Alison is Eagle Rare.
