“Running in a Gas Mask to Honor the Last Breath Taken by Our Fallen HEROES!”

After being deployed several times to the middle east, Veteran Marc Dibernardo has dedicated his time to helping veterans and their families by attempting amazing and physical goals while wearing a gas mask to honor the final breath of our fallen HEROES!

Since 2003, Marc Dibernardo has been running with the gas mask on his face. Over time, he trained more and more to begin running in obstacle courses and a wide range of races. In 2007, he competed in the 101st Week of the Eagles, the toughest air assault competition in the world, which he finished with ease. After that, he trained by completing 12 mile ruck marches with 60lbs every week and finished many marathons, 10k runs and 5k runs over the next years.

Many people said he was crazy, but that inspired him to keep pushing the limits.

He would soon discover more difficult challenges that helped him train harder and never give up. He ran in the Death Race, the Iron Dragon and the Limit of Advance race to keep pushing the limits even farther.

Then he got an idea to set a new world record for fastest marathon in a gas mask to memorialize those who have fallen. He did this race in memory of SSG Curtis Oakes and on May 1st, 2011, he broke the Guinness Book of World Record for the fastest full marathon in a gas mask with a time of 3 hours and 49 min.

Recently he combined forces with Active Heroes, a 501c3 Charity helping to build a retreat for military families. He helped by competing in a National contest against 200 charities and ran over 42 miles in a full gas mask in 10 hours. By the end of the contest, Marc helped propel Active Heroes to win the grand prize and have begun building the retreat to help with post traumatic stress disorder and suicide rates among veterans.

Marc Dibernardo leads a rare life by helping so many veterans and their families. He is truly an inspiration and unique for competing challenges that most people wouldn't. He honors those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and he honors our American military families... all while wearing a gas mask!
