Devotion is a wonderful word to describe Sandy. For over 25 years, her mission has been to purchase medical equipment or services for children with special needs. She is the founder, executive director and driving force of the Wheel to Walk Foundation, and has demanded that her position be unpaid and completely volunteer.
Sandy’s vision of Wheel to Walk happened when her granddaughter was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Knowing that there was nothing she could do about the diagnosis, she knew she had to ‘DO’ something. While volunteering and helping her granddaughter, she was noticing that many children with disabilities were not receiving the necessary equipment or therapy services they needed to thrive. So Sandy was determined to make that happen!
Many children are denied funding for simple medical items to help them thrive. Her efforts have allowed her to help over 1,500 children directly. However, that number significantly rises for these efforts help the whole family.
Sandy's devotion and dedication is what is so admirable. She continues working each day to help children in need.
A donation of $50,000 would mean so much to Wheel to Walk, for it would go directly to purchasing medical equipment or additional therapy sessions to children with special needs. Types of equipment that would be purchased are: therapy tricycles, gait trainers, wheelchairs, adaptive strollers, adaptive car seats, bath chairs, patient lifts, orthotics, zip zac chairs, pumper cars, speech therapy and intensive physical therapy.
